FHJ - JENA UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES RENOVATION AND EXTENSION ON THE CAMPUS

The project included renovation and reconstruction as well as extensions and new buildings (e.g. bridge, staircase, cafeteria, extensions to buildings 2 and 4a, intermediate levels) in two construction phases.

A modern teaching facility for university education was created, with consideration of aspects of monument preservation during the redesign. All individual buildings are listed buildings. Special technical requirements for research and teaching (laboratories, lecture halls) were combined with modern architectural language, and the internal processes of the campus were connected by complex infrastructure (including underground connecting tunnels and bridges).

All buildings are individual monuments from the 1930s and 1950s.

The design concept of the renovation included the restoration of the original color scheme, the greatest possible preservation of historical facade elements and building structure, the retention of the window division when installing new metal windows, and the visibility of structural and material building details despite new installations.

The new buildings are connected to the listed building (former listed Zeiss-Südwerk factory building). The project was implemented during ongoing operations.
